How do I change the game language, and how do I get voice-over in that language?
Age of Mythology: Retold supports multiple languages and you can change the language in one of two ways:
- Option 1: Change your platform language (for example, Xbox console settings or the Steam client language setting).
- Option 2: Change the language in-game via the Options menu.
To adjust the language in game you can follow these steps.
- Go to Settings from the Main Menu (Click on the ☰ in the upper right side of the menu)
- Go to the UI tab from the left-side menu.
- Under the User Interface window select the drop down option beside Language and select your preferred language for the game.
- After selecting your desired language, select Save or Apply at the bottom of the window to confirm the changes.
If I change the language in-game, will voice overs update automatically?
It depends on the platform:
- Xbox: You will be prompted to download the voice over files for that language. After the download completes, close and relaunch the game.
- Steam: Voice overs wont change just from the in-game setting. To download the correct voice over, open the Steam client and go to: right-click the game > Properties > General > Language. Steam will prompt an update to download the voice over files, and you will need to relaunch the game after the download.
If I change the language via the platform UI, what happens to voice overs?
After changing the platform language, behavior can vary:
- Xbox: On next launch, you'll be prompted to download the voice over files. Download them, close the game, then relaunch for the change to take effect.
- Steam: Steam will prompt an update and download the voice over files. Once the update finishes, you can launch the game.
I've downloaded voice over files before, do I still need to relaunch?
If the voice over files for a language are already downloaded, switching languages in the in-game settings menu will apply voice over immediately for those already-downloaded languages (for example, you can swap between English, German, and French without relaunching if the German/French voice over files were previously downloaded).
