ISSUE STATUS KEY
Issues have been marked with a status that best represents their current state:
A tracked bug means that it has been reproduced by our test team. The team now has to determine whether and how they solve the issue: whether it requires a fix, a change to the design or code of the game, or if there are other solutions that need to be considered.
|STATUS: Fix Awaiting Update
Once a fix has been identified, it needs to be tested and packaged with a game update. Note that this is not always the very next update: a fix may be held for additional testing or to be paired with other similar fixes.
Once the fix is available in the game, we'll check things off of the list. Eventually, these items will be hidden to make way for other issues as they are identified, tracked, and prioritized.
TRACKED (KNOWN) ISSUES
These are issues which have been reported and reproduced by our Quality Assurance (or Test) team. Issues are listed in the areas of the game they impact, below, and in no particular order.
|Out of Sync error
We're aware that Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition players who are using recent Windows 11 Insider builds are experiencing occasional desync issues. We're currently investigating. If you are experiencing this issue, please log a support ticket via our website with details: https://support.ageofempires.com/
|Creators Missing Mods in Age or Empires II: Definitive Edition
With the latest update to Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, a change was made that affects creators publishing mods via the Steam version of the game. Where your mods were previously publishing using your Microsoft / Xbox Live account, it is now using your Steam account. Your previously published mods are still available, you're just not able to update them from in the game.
We are looking into this issue at this time. In the mean time, if you need to update your mod you can log on to www.ageofempires.com with your Microsoft / Xbox Live account and publish your mod there. Or if you happen to also own the game via the Microsoft Store, you can publish from there.
|Custom Lobbies search functionality
When using the Search field in the Custom Lobby Browser, you may see "Searching for games..." appearing for longer than normal and then returning a "No games matching those parameters found."
If you run into this issue, you can delete the text in the Search field and simply hit Refresh.
|Multiplayer crash while in an 8 player match
|Some players may encounter a crash that can occur while participating in an 8 player Multiplayer match. This issue is currently under investagation at this time.

|Loss of functionality when a spectated player resigns from match.

|Ranked matches are not disabled 1 hour before maintenance.

|The difficulty will not default to the last difficulty played and needs to be set each time if playing on a difficulty other than standard.
|Hero unit glow (and other visual effects) can disappear when too many units are visible on screen.
|While this was partially fixed in the July update, there is still an issue where the hero glow, blood, and other visual effects can disappear in large-scale battles. We are working on a more permanent fix for a future update.

|Test was able to reproduce the issue and escalate it to the design team for a solution.

NOT A BUG
Sometimes things can seem like an issue that are actually a part of the game's design. Here are some of those unique "issues" with the reasoning as to why they are the way they are. This does not mean they cannot be changed, but that they should be treated as a discussion rather than a bug.
|Burgundians: Converted Villagers do not become Flemish Militia after researching the Flemish Revolution technology.
|Similar to other units in the game, converted units never benefit from upgrades researched after their conversion. This, too, applies to any Villagers wololo'd over to your side.
