Updates 18.27100 and 18.28714 brought a number of fixes for PlayStation 5 freezing issues and '0001-0001-ffffffff' error for Age of Mythology: Retold. If there are still issues after installing these updates, please try the steps below.
Note: Most players should find that Fix 1 or Fix 2 should resolve any outstanding issues. Fix 3 is only recommended if Fix 1 and Fix 2 have not fixed the problem on your PlayStation 5.
Fix 1: Fully reboot your PlayStation 5
To reboot your PlayStation 5 press the PlayStation button on your controller, navigate to the power icon in the bottom right, use the Restart PS5 option and then wait for the restart to complete.
Fix 2: Delete your local cache
Ensure you have uploaded anything related to Age of Mythology: Retold that you want to keep to the cloud.
To apply this fix follow these steps:
- Upload your data to the cloud. Back up any data you would like to keep such as your settings, save games, replays, etc. (Note: This step requires a PlayStation Plus subscription). Open the Settings menu from the home screen, scroll down and select “Saved Data and Game/App Settings”, select “Saved Data (PS5)”, select “Upload or Delete from Console”, select “Upload to Cloud Storage”, choose the game/s you want to upload data for and confirm you want to upload to the cloud storage.
- Delete your local cache. To complete this step follow the steps for Fix 3 and instead of choosing “Rebuild Database” choose “Clear System Software Cache” during step 5.
- Uninstall Age of Mythology: Retold. To uninstall games on the PlayStation 5, navigate to Age of Mythology: Retold while on your home screen and press the “Options” button on your controller (three lines). Select “Delete” and follow the prompts to uninstall the game.

- Reinstall Age of Mythology: Retold. navigate to the "Game Library" option under the Games menu in the home screen. Switch to the "Your Collection" tab at the top. Scroll over to the Search option (magnifying glass icon) and search for Age of Mythology: Retold. Select the Download option to reinstall the game
- Download your cloud data. Repeat the first step and instead of selecting “Upload or Delete from Console” instead choose “Download or Delete from Cloud Storage” then choose to download Age Mythology: Retold data. (Note: This step requires a PlayStation Plus subscription).
Fix 3: Switch your PlayStation 5 into Safe Mode and use Rebuild Database.
To apply this fix follow these steps:
- Make sure you have a cable to connect your PlayStation 5 controller directly to the console as this is required for step 4. Also ensure you perform these steps with plenty of time for the console to complete the database rebuild. The time this takes will vary depending on the number of games on your console and other factors.
- Press the PlayStation button on your controller, navigate to the power icon in the bottom right, use the Turn Off PS5 option and then wait for your console to fully shutdown (give the console at least a minute to ensure it has fully completed the shutdown process. Once done, there should be no lights on for the console).
- Hold down the power button on the front of your console until you hear a second beep. This will allow your PlayStation 5 to boot into Safe Mode.
- Connect your controller to the PlayStation 5 with a cable (if not already attached).
- You should see a Safe Mode menu visible. Select the “Clear Cache and Rebuild Database” and then select the “Rebuild Database” option. Click OK when asked to confirm rebuilding.
- After the Rebuild Database has completed, your PlayStation 5 will automatically restart and will return you to the login screen.
